Aldeyjarfoss waterfall, north Iceland

Location: North Iceland
Directions on Google maps

Aldeyjarfoss waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in north Iceland. The waterfall is surrounded by natural basaltic columns and runs through the uppermost regions of the Bardardalur valley, on the Sprengisandur highland route. The waterfall is easily accessible, as you can drive almost all the way up to it.

To get to Aldeyjarfoss you will need a 4×4 car and please note that the road can be hard to navigate, and perhaps closed all together, during the peak of the winter season.

Aldeyjarfoss is located in about a 45 minute drive from Godafoss, through the Bárðardalur valley. You will have to follow route 844, south of Godafoss, along the Skjálfandafljót river.

Aldeyjarfoss is not far off Godafoss Waterfall, another spectacular waterfall in north Iceland. It is also close to other attractions on the Diamond Circle Route, for example Husavik Town, Dimmuborgir and Lake Myvatn.
